Our Mission

Building strong roots for strong futures.

We advance the education and wellbeing of Black youth, children, and families in Ontario by delivering free, trauma-informed life skills programming — building emotional literacy, self-advocacy, healthy coping, financial literacy, digital safety, and goal-setting. We give priority to communities facing systemic barriers to opportunity, in Scarborough and across the province.

What We Build

Six skills. One strong foundation.

Whatever the program, our work centers on the core strengths children and youth carry for life.

1

Emotional Literacy

Naming and understanding feelings — because feelings are information.

2

Self-Advocacy

Speaking up, setting boundaries, and standing in your own worth.

3

Healthy Coping

Real tools for stress, conflict, and big emotions.

4

Financial Literacy

Money confidence and smart habits, starting young.

5

Digital Safety

Navigating the online world wisely and safely.

6

Goal-Setting

Turning dreams into plans — one small step at a time.

Who We Serve

For our children, our families, our community.

FGU programming is free and open to the children and families who need it most — with priority for communities facing systemic barriers to opportunity. We meet families where they are, in the neighbourhoods they call home.
